VAC Biometrics – Chennai Inside Process (Step-by-Step Guide)

This guide will walk you through what to expect inside the Visa Application Centre (VAC) in Chennai for your biometric enrollment.
1. Location
2. Before You Go
Appointment Letter: You must have your visa interview appointment confirmation letter, which includes your VAC appointment details.
Passport: Carry your current, valid passport.
DS-160 Confirmation: Carry the DS-160 confirmation page with the barcode.
3. Documents to Carry (Mandatory)
Bring these printed documents:
Appointment Confirmation Letter (VAC + Interview)
DS-160 Confirmation Page (with barcode)
Valid Passport
Visa Fee Receipt (if applicable)
Optional / Supporting Documents:
Previous passport (if any)
Appointment payment proof (if required)
4. Security Check – Allowed & Not Allowed Items
Allowed:
Documents
Wallet (with small cash or cards)
Transparent plastic folder
Not Allowed:
Phones / Smartwatches
Bags / Backpacks / Purses
Food / Drinks
USB drives / Electronics
5 . Avoid Scams Near the Consulate
Be cautious of strangers offering to “store your belongings” or “speed up your process.” Many of these are scams. Only use authorized locker services.

For safe and secure storage of your prohibited items, use the official Aprion Digital Lockers.

Chennai Specific: Located within walking distance of the U.S. Consulate/VAC Biometrics.
7. Token Issuing / Queue Management
After security, staff will check your appointment and issue a token number.
Wait in the seating area until your number appears on the display screen.
8. Document Verification At the first counter, staff will:
Verify your passport and DS-160 confirmation page
Cross-check your appointment details
If everything matches, they’ll guide you to the next step
9. Biometric Capture
At the next station, your biometric data will be captured.
Fingerprints: All ten fingerprints will be scanned electronically.
Photograph: A digital photograph will be taken against a white background. (Dress neatly as this photo may be used for your visa).
10. Final Confirmation
You’ll receive a confirmation stamp or slip after biometrics.
Keep it safely — you’ll need it for your visa interview day.
11. After the VAC Visit
Next Step: You are now ready for your visa interview at the U.S. Consulate General, Chennai on your scheduled date and time.
Remember: You must carry all your documents (and the proof of biometric completion, if provided) to your interview at the Consulate.
At the Consulate: The security process is similar. Use the Aprion Digital Locker again to store your prohibited items before entering the Consulate for your interview.
