1. What Is an Emergency Visa Appointment?
An emergency appointment is when you ask to have your interview date moved up fast because you have an urgent need.
It is not a type of visa but rather a way to get an earlier appointment.
Here's a thing to know: You can only ask for an emergency appointment if you already have a regular appointment scheduled even if its a year, from now.

2. Qualifying vs. Non-Qualifying Situations
The Consular Section is very particular about what they consider an emergency.
Qualifying Situations
Medical Emergencies: A life-threatening illness or urgent medical treatment for the applicant or a close family member, like a parent, sibling or child in the U.S.
Funeral/Death: Going to the funeral of a family member or making arrangements for their remains.
I need to make business trips when something unexpected comes up and I have to travel right away like if I have to negotiate a really important contract or fix a major technical problem.
For Students or Exchange Visitors who have an F M or J visa if your program is going to start in the 60 days and there are no regular time slots available.
3. Situations That Usually Do Not Qualify
Going to weddings or graduation ceremonies.
Helping out family members.
Taking a last-minute trip, for tourism or visiting family for no reason.
Renewing a visa that expired because you forgot.
4. Basic Requirements Before Requesting an Emergency Slot
You cannot just ask for an emergency slot without doing some things first. You have to do these things before you can even think about getting an emergency slot.
You must first complete the DS-160 Form. This means you have to fill out the Nonimmigrant Visa Application form and you have to get your confirmation page.
Then you have to pay the Visa Fee. This is the Machine Readable Visa fee that everyone has to pay.
Next you have to schedule an appointment. You need to book the available regular appointment through the official website, which is either ustraveldoc.com or uscheduling.com.
The emergency request is something that is connected to this appointment that you already scheduled.
5. Supporting Documents for Emergency Requests
When you are making an Emergency Request you need to show us some documents that prove it is really urgent. These documents can be things like:
Medical letters from hospitals or doctors that say you need to do something away
Death certificates or hospital records that show something serious has happened
Official business letters that explain why you need to do something quickly
University letters that confirm when your program is going to start so we know you need to take care of this Emergency Request as soon, as possible for your Emergency Request. You have to upload these documents or show them to us for your Emergency Request.
6. How the Emergency Appointment Request Gets Reviewed
The consular staff look at the request. The evidence provided.
They check if the situation really needs travel.
The applicant must have given documentation.
They make sure everything is okay, before moving
The consular staff want to confirm the situation is urgent.
They review each request carefully.
7. Important Things to Remember and What Happens After Approval
Emergency appointment approval does not mean the visa is approved.
The visa approval is a thing. If you give weak information your request may be rejected.
If your emergency appointment is approved you can use the system to schedule an interview on a date.
You have to go to the interview, with all the documents that are required. You have to explain the emergency reason very clearly. The emergency appointment is the first step and then you have to do the interview so remember that the emergency appointment approval does not guarantee visa approval.
Good Luck.
