Attending your U.S. visa interview is an important part of your travel process. Being organized and informed will help you stay confident and calm. Here’s a complete step-by-step guide to make your visa interview day smooth and stress-free.

Step 1: Organize Your Documents
Before you leave, double-check that you have all necessary documents neatly arranged in a clear, transparent folder.
Essential Documents:
Your current passport and any old passports.
The interview appointment confirmation letter.
The DS-160 confirmation page with the barcode.
The visa fee (MRV) payment receipt.
Supporting documents relevant to your visa type (e.g., I-20 for students, employment letter for H1B, financial statements, etc.).
Step 2: Arrive Early
Arrive at the U.S. Consulate or Embassy 15–20 minutes before your scheduled appointment.
Don’t reach too early; entry is usually allowed only close to your appointment time.
Make sure to plan your travel route and consider traffic conditions.
Step 3: Allowed & Not Allowed Items
US Embassies and Consulates have very strict rules about what you can bring inside.
✅ Allowed Items:
Your transparent folder contains all required documents.
Your passport.
A small wallet with cash or credit cards.
❌ Prohibited Items:
All electronics: Mobile phones, smartwatches, digital pens, headphones, laptops, tablets, cameras.
Bags: Backpacks, large handbags, briefcases, luggage. Only your document folder is typically allowed.
Food and drinks.
Sealed envelopes or packages.
Flammable items like lighters or matchboxes.
Sharp objects.
Step 4: Beware of Unauthorized Vendors & Scams
Outside every U.S. Consulate, you may find people offering “help” or “locker services.” ⚠️ Do not trust strangers or hand over your belongings (phone, bag, etc.) to auto drivers or street vendors claiming they’ll “keep them safe.”
Always use official locker facilities near the consulate.

Be Honest: Answer every question truthfully. Do not provide false information or fake documents.
Listen Carefully: Pay close attention to the question asked by the officer.
Be Concise: Answer only the question that is asked. Do not volunteer extra information that is not requested.
Know Your Purpose: Be very clear about the purpose of your trip to the United States and be prepared to explain it.
Dress Professionally: Wear clean, formal or semi-formal attire to make a good first impression.
Good luck with your interview!
