U.S. Visa Interview Kolkata 2026: Complete Process & Tips

1. Find Out Where Your Consulate Is And What Time It Opens

In Kolkata you need to know that the place where they take your biometrics and the place where you have an interview are not the same.

2. Keep Your Documents Organized

You should only carry the documents that are really needed.

These Documents are the Passport that's valid

  • The DS-160 confirmation page,

  • The Appointment confirmation letter,

  • And the Visa fee receipt if you have to pay a fee for the Visa.

3. Security Check Process

The Kolkata Consulate has strict security protocols. Think of it like airport security, but even more restrictive.

5. Dress Code

When you go for an interview what you wear is important.

  • There is no rule about what you have to wear but you should still dress nicely.

  • It is an idea to wear business casual clothes that are neat and clean and not too flashy.

  • This shows that you really want the job and you are taking the interview seriously.

  • You should not wear things like tops or shorts or flip flops because they are too casual, for a job interview.


6. Inside the Consulate

The process inside is very organized. You need to follow what the security and consulate staff tell you.

  • Queue and Security: You will go in at the time of your appointment. You will go through a security check like at an airport.

  • Document Verification: You will go to a counter. They will check your appointment letter and DS-160 confirmation.

  • Fingerprint Verification: They will ask you to scan your fingerprints. This is to make sure they match the ones you gave at your Biometrics appointment.

  • Interview Queue: You will wait in a queue. Sit in a waiting area. You will be called to an interview window when its your turn.

  • The Interview: A Consular Officer will call you to their window. They will ask for your passport. They might ask for documents too. They will ask you questions. They want to know why you are traveling how you make money what you do for work or study and if you have family or friends, in India. You should answer clearly and honestly.


7. Passport Approval and Delivery

  • If your visa gets approved they will keep your passport. Send it to you by courier at the address or pickup location you chose within a few days.

  • If your visa gets denied they will let you know away and give you back your passport.
