2. Arriving Early & Preparation (Arrive Early)

  • When you get to your appointment try to arrive on time. Getting there early is usually not needed because they will only let you in a little while before your scheduled appointment time. You should look at your appointment confirmation to see what it says about when you should arrive for your appointment.

  • Have your documents ready: Keep all your required documents organized and in an easily accessible folder.

  • Passport (current + old)

  • DS-160 confirmation

  • Visa appointment confirmation

  • Photographs (as per specs)

  • Supporting documents (if asked)

  • When the officer asks you something you should answer in an truthful way.

  • The officer wants to find out if you meet the requirements of the law.

  • They need to know if you qualify so you should answer questions in a way.

  • Be Prepared: Know your travel plans, funding source, and ties to India. For students/work visas, know your university/employer details.

  • Keep Answers Short: Provide direct answers. Only offer supporting documents if asked or if you need to illustrate a point.
