1. 📍 Know Your Appointment Locations (VAC/OFC & Consulate)
Be Clear: Most U.S. visa applications require two separate appointments:
Visa Application Center (VAC) / Offsite Facilitation Center (OFC): For biometrics (fingerprints and photo).
U.S. Embassy/Consulate: For the actual interview with a Consular Officer.
Don't Mix Them Up: Ensure you know the exact address for both and plan your travel accordingly.

Confidently dressed in a suit and tie, a person gives a thumbs-up, embodying preparedness and positivity ahead of a U.S. visa interview.
2. Carry All Required Documents
Keep all original documents neatly organized:
Passport(s) – current and old
DS-160 confirmation page
Appointment confirmation
Visa fee receipt
Supporting documents (as per your visa type)
3. Arrive Early, But Not Too Early
Arrive 1hr-50 minutes before your appointment time. Arriving hours early will not grant you earlier entry and you may have to wait outside.
Late arrivals may be denied entry and you will have to reschedule.
4. Strictly Follow Security Rules - Prohibited Items
Not Allowed Inside: Electronic devices (phones, smartwatches, laptops, tablets, cameras), large bags, food, sharp objects, weapons, liquids (incl. water bottles), tobacco products, matches/lighters, sealed envelopes.
Allowed Inside: A clear plastic folder with your documents, wallet.
5. BEWARE of Scams & Use Authorized Storage
Outside Scams: Touts outside the Embassy may offer "safe" storage (bags, phones) at exorbitant prices or claim to be "official." They are NOT. Your items may be stolen or held for ransom.
Auto/Taxi Scam: Some drivers may insist you must leave your phone/bag with them before reaching the security zone. Do not fall for this. They are often in league with the touts.
The Secure Solution: Use a Trusted Digital Locker Facility (Like Aprion)
6. Aprion Digital Locker (Safe Storage Option)
This service offers a secure alternative to the street vendors:
Key Features: Face Detection Access: Touch-free, secure entry using facial recognition.
Digital Lock System: No physical keys or tokens to lose. Access via app.
Book Online: Reserve a locker via their app/website to guarantee availability and save time.
Comfortable Facilities: AC waiting areas, clean restrooms to freshen up. Location-Specific Locker Strategy:
Chennai Strategy: The facility is within walking distance of the U.S. Consulate. You can store your items and then walk to the interview. The AC waiting area is a bonus.
Delhi Strategy: The locker is about 3 km from the US Embassy, which is in a high-security zone. Go to the locker first, deposit items, and then take a taxi/auto to the Embassy. This is the correct strategy for the Delhi location.
Kolkata Strategy: Very conveniently located near the US Consulate for a fast check-in/out process.
7. Dress Neatly & Answer Confidently
Dress in business-casual attire. First impressions matter.
Answer questions clearly, honestly, and concisely. The officer's main concern is your intent to return home after your visit. Be prepared to explain your trip purpose, ties to home, and finances.
8. Visa Outcome
After the interview:
If approved → your passport will be kept and later sent to your selected pickup location.
If refused → you will receive your passport back immediately with a refusal slip.
9. Pro Tips
Keep your DS-160 details fresh in your mind.
Don’t over-explain unless asked.
Maintain a calm and positive attitude.
Be honest—consular officers detect inconsistency quickly.
