1. Arrive Early (Chennai Traffic Tip)  Chennai traffic can be unpredictable, especially around Anna Salai and Cathedral Road. Plan to reach the U.S. Consulate at least 30–45 minutes early. Arriving early helps you:

  • Settle your documents calmly

  • Find locker facilities (if needed)

  • Avoid last-minute stress due to traffic or parking

2. The Initial Security Line & Queue  Your first stop will be the main gate on Anderson Road. Look for signs or staff members who will direct you to the correct line based on your appointment type (e.g., B1/B2 Tourist, H1B, F1 Student). Have your appointment confirmation letter and passport ready in your hand. You will be asked for these documents multiple times before you even enter the building. 3. Allowed and Not Allowed Items  The U.S. Consulate follows strict security rules.

Allowed:

  • Passport

  • DS-160 confirmation page

  • Transparent plastic folder

  • Small wallet with cash

❌ Not Allowed:
