The O-1 visa interview is your chance to prove that you are recognized at the top of your field. Preparation is key to a smooth and successful experience.

1. Know Your O-1 Category Clearly
Be fully aware of your O-1 subtype (O-1A – Science/Education/Business/Athletics or O-1B – Arts/Motion Pictures/TV).
Be ready to explain your achievements in simple, confident language.
2. Bring All Supporting Documents
Even if many documents are already uploaded, keep a physical or digital set:
Petition approval notice (I-797)
Employment/Project contracts
Evidence of awards, international recognition, media coverage
Expert letters (Recommendation letters)
Portfolio or work samples (if applicable)
3. Security Check
Strictly no electronics, bags, or sealed envelopes allowed inside.
You can only carry your documents and wallet (cash/card).
4. Beware of Locker Scams Outside the U.S. Embassy
Many unofficial locker operators charge high prices or offer unsafe storage.
Avoid roadside vendors and temporary stalls.
5. Aprion Digital Locker (Safe & Verified Option)
Since prohibited items cannot be taken inside, using a secure locker service is essential.
Key Features
Face Detection Access: Modern, touch-free, highly secure entry.
Smart Digital Lock System: No physical keys or tokens; full digital control.
Online & Offline Booking: Book online to avoid waiting, or walk in anytime.
Location-Specific Locker Strategy
Chennai: The locker facility is within walking distance from the U.S. Consulate. A clean, air-conditioned waiting area is available, which is a great place to compose yourself before your interview.
Delhi: The locker is about 3 km from the U.S. Embassy. The strategy here is to first go to the locker location, deposit all your prohibited items, and then take a cab or auto to the Embassy. This is crucial as there are no storage options in the high-security zone immediately around the Embassy.
Kolkata: Located very conveniently near the US Consulate. They offer fast digital check-in/out and comfortable facilities, making the process quick and easy.
6. Maintain a Professional Appearance & Composure
Dress professionally, as you would for a important business meeting in your field.
Be polite and respectful to everyone, from the security staff to the consular officer.
Stay calm and composed, even if you feel nervous. Take a deep breath before answering.
7. Expect a Very Short Interview
For an O-1 visa, the officer is primarily verifying two things:
That you are the person whose petition was approved.
That you clearly understand the purpose of your trip (your job/project in the U.S.).
The interview may only last 2-5 minutes. Be ready to deliver your key points immediately. Good Luck For Your Interview
